Barry Ferguson, the former Rangers star, has advised young midfielder Bailey Rice to embrace the arrival of Lyall Cameron from Dundee and use it as motivation to fight for a place in the Rangers squad.

The 18-year-old Rice has come through the Rangers academy and made four senior appearances for the club so far. Despite his impressive performances, Rangers have signed Cameron on a pre-contract, signaling their intention to strengthen the midfield in the summer.

Rangers Rising Star Urged to Seize Opportunity Amid New Signing

Ferguson believes that Rice should see the addition of Cameron as an opportunity to push himself and prove to manager Philippe Clement that he deserves a regular spot in the squad. The ex-Rangers captain suggested that Rice should use the remaining games this season to demonstrate to Clement that he will be ready to compete with Cameron for a starting position.

“If I was Rice I would welcome the summer signing of Lyall Cameron from Dundee and I’d want to make sure, between now and the end of the season, the manager knows I’ll be ready to fight him for a place in the starting line-up.”

Opportunity Knocks for Young Rangers Stars

With the departures of Kieran Dowell and Rabbi Matondo during the transfer window, Ferguson believes that Rice and his teammate Curtis have a clear path to establish themselves in the Rangers first team.

“With the likes of Kieran Dowell and Rabbi Matondo moving on during the transfer window, Rice and Curtis can now see the light at the end of that tunnel”, Ferguson wrote in his Daily Record column.

Ferguson has urged the young players to seize this chance and make their mark on the team, stating that they should be thinking, “What a chance I’ve got. This is the time to make my mark”.

Rice has yet to start a game for Rangers this season, but he will be determined to work hard in training and prove his worth to Clement, especially with the upcoming Scottish Cup clash against Queen’s Park on Sunday.

The arrival of Lyall Cameron presents both a challenge and an opportunity for Bailey Rice. As Ferguson suggests, the young midfielder should welcome the competition and use it as motivation to secure his place in the Rangers squad for the long term.
